Then there’s the soccer FIFA World Cup (21 November– 18 December) plus the NRL and AFL grand finals (2 October and 24 September, respectively), as well as the Brownlow Medal ceremony (19 September). If you can be there for everything in person, congratulations! But the rest of us will be comfortably watching from home, with friends, good food, and expert TV commentary.

Best TVs For Watching Sport Inside The House

Want to watch the Commonwealth Games from suburbia in Brisbane, Sydney or Adelaide, but feel like you’re right there in Birmingham? The latest TVs can make it happen with Mini-LED delivering bright pictures even in direct sun, OLED that gives the best experience in relatively dark rooms, 85-inch TVs that make you feel like you’re there, and intelligent processors that use AI to upscale standard definition free-to-air TV to nearly 4K, or even 8K. Not to mention all the handy smart features that allow you to integrate all your favourite sports streaming services without needing any extra devices. With the latest generation of TVs, the sky is really the limit when it comes to realism.

Best Projectors For Watching Sport

Haven’t considered a projector? It’s time, says John Milonas. “Projectors give you a lot more flexibility than a traditional TV, and there are two types of projectors to choose from.”

The first is portable, so you can take it camping, to the backyard, or to the bedroom, so you can watch those 2am finals in comfort.

“The second type is your more serious laser projectors that allow you to have a big screen picture of 100-inches at a more affordable price than, say, an OLED TV,” says John.

Whichever type of projector you are looking for, it’s important to find one with the resolution you seek and ensure you have a good speaker to go with it. Some of the new generation of projectors even have smart features built-in, so you can use streaming services anywhere you have an internet connection.

Want to watch the Commonwealth Games around the barbie with your mates? You got it. The Portable Projector from Samsung is perfect for a covered verandah, so you don’t have to compromise on game day. The time of TVs being a purely indoor activity is over – the future has no such limits on how you host your backyard celebrations when the game’s on.

Best Audio For Watching Sport

There are a few key features to look for in an audio system for getting the best sport auditory experience, no matter where you watch it, says John Milonas, The Good Guys Buyer for Televisions and Accessories. “Having a separate subwoofer for bass is a must-have, because you really want to feel the roar of the crowd.”

Another bonus is a soundbar or surround sound system that will allow you to add rear speakers, either now or down the line, to get a truly immersive experience. You want to feel like you’re in the stadium, not peering in from the outside.

If you have a TV with special audio features, like Dolby Atmos, make sure you get a soundbar that’s up to giving you the full experience with upward firing speakers.
