The Tineco edge: The right way to clean your hardwood floors

February 06, 2025 - 3 min read

There’s a reason Australian homes have fallen hard for hardwood floors. On top of adding a touch of luxe to any interior, when they’re at their sparkly best, they’re a hygienic, hypoallergenic choice too.

But throw in daily foot traffic, food spills, pet mishaps and kids determined to introduce your floorboards to every toy in their box and, without dedicating a decent chunk of your time and energy to cleaning floors, that “sparkly best” can quickly become a pipedream.

Never fear! The solution can be as simple as kitting yourself out with the best hard floor cleaner, such as a floorcare champion from Tineco – one that multi-tasks effortlessly to save you time and effort.

Why choose a Tineco floor cleaner?

“When it comes to a brand that delivers the very best in terms of quality, performance and innovation, Tineco really stands out as a leader in the floorcare category,” says Nick Trajkovski, The Good Guys Buyer – Floorcare.

“Tineco’s hard floor cleaners are not only time savers, they’re also game changers, combining three different cleaning capabilities in the one thoughtfully designed appliance and delivering a superior clean across the board.”

Read on for our expert guide on how to clean hardwood floors, and discover how a Tineco hard floor cleaner can make short work of hard yakka – with gleaming results.

How often should you clean hardwood floors?

That answer really depends on your individual circumstances, says Abbie Carlyon, owner of The Coastal Cleaning Co. “Best practice is once a week, but if you have floorboards in high-traffic areas, or you have pets or you wear outdoor shoes indoors, hardwood floors might need cleaning three times a week,” she suggests.
And that “clean” requires more than a quick whip around with a vacuum. “Vacuuming is important but mopping afterwards is crucial to lift the dirt and make the floors shine,” says Abbie.

Can you use a steam mop on hardwood floors?

As a final step, cleaning with steam can eliminate lingering bacteria. “You should always check with your flooring manufacturer or do a spot test somewhere inconspicuous before using steam as it’s not suitable for every type of floorboard,” says Abbie Carlyon.
As a general rule while steam can be used on sealed hardwood floors, it shouldn’t be used on unsealed wood, engineered wood or laminate flooring.

Not sure how to remove scuff marks from hardwood floors? Abbie shares this pro tip: “We use the magic eraser pads that you simply soak in water before using to buff out the scuff mark.”

Simple cleaning hacks for hardwood floors

Are you thinking all of the above sounds like a whole lot of work – not to mention investing in a load of different floor cleaners? Well, allow us to introduce you to the Tineco One S7 Steam Hard Floor Cleaner. It’s the answer to all of your sealed hardwood floor maintenance problems (and so much more!). Here’s how.

The problem: “Cleaning all our hard floors takes too long!”

Cut your cleaning time in half with the Tineco S7  – a vacuum, mop and steam cleaner all in one. So, whenever you use it, you can tick off all three jobs at once. And it’s not just useful for cleaning your sealed hardwood floors. The Tineco One S7 Steam Hard Floor Cleaner can also be used on other non-carpeted floors, such as vinyl and tiles, too.

The problem: “My floors get too wet”

Not with the Tineco S7. On top of its Balanced-Pressure Water Flow System, this clever cleaner also features iLoop Smart Sensor technology, which detects how much floor debris it’s dealing with and adjusts suction power and water flow to suit.

The problem: “I can never reach the corners properly”

The Tineco S7 features a genius brush-head design that allows for dual-sided edge cleaning, to make cleaning even the most hard-to-reach corners possible. No more missed messes at your place!

The problem: “I hate mopping with dirty water”

We totally get it. It defeats the purpose, right? Tineco technology means a unique floating scraper squeezes the dirty roller with each revolution, getting rid of dirty water into a separate tank before rinsing the roller with fresh water every time.

The problem: “I’d rather not use chemicals for stubborn stains”

You don’t have to. The Tineco S7 is designed to be used with Tineco cleaning solution, which tackles even the toughest stains without the need for harsh chemicals or endless scrubbing. It also features a Boost Steam mode to target localised, stubborn stains.

The problem: “I want a more hygienic clean for my family”

The steam created by the Tineco S7 reaches 140°C, hot enough to eliminate 99.99% of floor-based germs and bacteria. It doesn’t get much cleaner or more hygienic than that.

The problem: “My arms get tired when I’m cleaning”

No problem! The Tineco S7 is not only lightweight, it also uses a unique bi-directional self-propulsion system. So, whether you’re pushing the hard floor cleaner forward or pulling it back, you can relax and let it do all the hard work for you.

The problem: “I don’t want to deal with smelly mops afterwards”

That really is the worst, isn’t it! Good news – not only does the Tineco S7 go into self-cleaning mode when it’s placed on its docking station, it also features centrifugal air-drying technology. This removes water effectively while eliminating any post-clean odour.
