How to choose the right computer for you

May 26, 2022 – 3 min read

So you’ve decided it’s time for a new computer. Whether you’re upgrading your home office tech, kitting the kids out for school, levelling up your gaming, or just looking for a simpler way to pay the bills online, there is a tech solution out there that ticks all your boxes.

But where to begin? Laptop or desktop? Top of the hi-tech tree? Or something in-between? There are so many choices out there. And with technology evolving so fast, how do you find the right computer for you?

No need to get your hard drive overheated! We’ve gone back to basics to break down the three main categories of home computers for you, along with their key defining features:

1. Desktops

Desktop computers come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, with huge storage capacity. An all-in-one desktop computer is simple to set up and use, making it a solid choice for families with multiple users. Great for gamers, a tower PC will give you even more storage for games, apps, videos and music. Just keep in mind, you will need to buy a screen, mouse and keyboard separately.

2. Laptops

Lightweight, durable and portable, a laptop makes the world your personal office. The latest models deliver a lot of the same features as a desktop computer, and with a reliable battery-life they’re perfect for on-the-go operations. Laptops are a top pick if you’re mixing up your work week with days spent both at the office and at home. Use them to stream all your favourite series, and you’ve got a back-up TV on tap too.

3. 2-in-1s

Can’t decide whether you want a laptop or a tablet? Have both! A laptop that converts to a touchscreen tablet, 2-in-1s give you all the fun of a tablet with the functionality of a laptop. Set up as a laptop for study or work then flip into tablet mode for video chats with friends and family or some downtime playing your favourite gaming apps.

The right computer can maximise your efficiency at work, set your kids up for study success, or help you feel more connected to friends, family and the world around you.
