Juicer Buying Guide

Juicers have risen in popularity over the years, as an increasing number of people look to add more fresh fruit and veg to their diets. But with a number of different makes and models on the market, some people may not be sure how to choose a juicer.

1. Buying a Juicer

The most important part of buying a juicer is making sure you purchase a product that easily blends all greens, herbs, grasses and fruits. Otherwise you may find your juices are too thick and lumpy!

2. Cold-Pressed Juicers and Centrifugal Juicers

There are two types of juicers – cold-pressed and centrifugal models.

The latter is often much cheaper, but can have difficulty blending leafy greens, herbs and sprouts.

Cold-pressed juicers use a masticating method to squeeze out the juice from ingredients, which produces more liquid and a higher quality final product.

3. Time Vs. Juice Quality

Centrifugal juicers are not the quietest of appliances, with the grinding and cutting of the blades creating a certain amount of noise. So you could risk waking up the whole house when making your morning juice!

Cold-press juicers are much quieter, as the pressing action is slower.

While this is slower, better-quality juice is produced and less heat is generated from the process, which preserves enzymes and nutrients.

4. Easy to Clean

Check whether your juicer is simple to assemble or disassemble, or better yet you can purchase a self-cleaning model.

Often on cold-pressed products, this feature means a spinning brush is located inside the juicing bowl and wipes the surface while blending. This stops pulp from building up and only requires a swift run under the tap to get sparkling again.

5. Centrifugul Juicers Tend to be More Noisy

Centrifugal juicers are not the quietest of appliances, with the grinding and cutting of the blades creating a certain amount of noise. So you could risk waking up the whole house when making your morning smoothie!

Cold-press juicers are much quieter, as the pressing action is slower.

6. Why A Juicer?

Juicers, blenders and food processors have some common functions. Should you buy a juicer, blender or food processor?  The answer is different for everyone and really boils down to what you’ll be using it for.  If you just want to make traditional juices then a juicer will do just that. If you also want to be able to blend soups, icy smoothies and cocktails a blender is a better option, whereas a food processor is perfect for busy people who want to save time on their everyday food prep–it does all your chopping, slicing, dicing, grating, blending, whipping and whizzing so you can cook quick meals and entertain loved ones effortlessly.
